Homemade/Creative Valentine’s Day Ideas and Gifts

Many times a homemade valentine day gift will have more meaning than something you purchased. The recipient of the gift knows that you cared enough to take your time to make something to express your love on this lover’s day of the year. Additionally, maybe you have agreed to save money for some other reason such as an upcoming vacation.

This doesn’t mean that you can forget Valentine’s Day. What stops most of us from making something is that we have no idea where to start. Ideas are what we need – not talent. You don’t have to be an artist or a graphic designer to make a homemade gift. So here are some ideas to consider.

(1)    Make up a coupon book of things you will do when presented with the coupon. Ideas in this area are fixing dinner, cleaning up after dinner including the dishes, preparing the garden area for spring planting, washing the car, painting a room, or any task that you know your loved one would really like you to help with or to get done.

(2)    Personalized photos – this is big area with lots of things you could do. Take one or more photographs from memorable moments of your relationship and frame them with a special note (handwritten) to place below the pictures and under the glass. How about making up a collection of photographs that tell a story of special moments in your lives that you have shared.

(3)     Go to the craft store and get some wooden hearts (very inexpensive), paint them and after they are dried write special messages on each one of the hearts. Drill holes in the hearts and connect together with string or a ribbon. Hang these on whatever doorknob your partner will be using on Valentine’s Day.

(4)    Empty out a candy box and make something special (cookies etc.) that your partner loves and place them in the box. If you don’t have a candy box any gift box around can be decorated or highly personalized with messages you put on the outside of the box. White shirt boxes from Christmas presents could work for this box.

(5)    Make your own Valentine Day card. This works well when combined with photographs or memories of meaning moments you have shared together. This card can also be a very humorous card of past moments.

(6)    Take a can of spray paint and paint a Valentine Day message on the yard. Most grass is dead and yellow by this time of year so the message will show up well. The message will probably be gone after the next snow. If you need to remove the message after Valentine’s Day then simply rake it away.

(7)    Send an e-mail with a link to a video that is meaningful to him/her. Include your message in the e-mail.

(8)    Use any anti-fog spray and clean off the mirror near the shower that gets steamed up whenever  showers are taken. Before the anti-fox spray dries use a Q-tip and write a message where you have sprayed the anti-fog spray. When your loved one comes out of the shower they will see the message. This one is my favorite unique idea.

(9)    Use the box in item 4 above and fill with handwritten messages. These can be about happy times, funny times, or romantic times. Let them know how your experiences together have made your life better and why you love them so much.

(10) Use washable chalk or washable paints and write a valentine card or special messages on the sidewalk or porch leading to the house.

As you can see from the above list there are many homemade gifts or creative valentine ideas that you accomplish without spending a great deal of money. The most important thing is that you don’t forget to do something!
